History Makes The News

Excerpt from a 1954 pamphlet by the U.S. Foreign Operations Administration talking about Taiwan—formerly known as Formosa.

The short booklet details the actions of the U.S. Mutual Security Agency to defend Taiwan, “Free China’s stronghold,” from “communist hordes” on the mainland. This pamphlet was published two-and-a-half decades prior to the United States’ official recognition of the People’s Republic of China.
