Are you lost in time?

You’re lost in an unfamiliar town. What do you do? Sure, you could ask the robot lady on your phone for directions, but the only way to really keep yourself from getting lost again is to explore your surroundings. You need to become familiar with the local landmarks and get a genuine feel for where you are.

The same is true with being lost in time. You don’t really know when you are until you investigate what came before—when you get a feel for the past.3Knowing the future would help here too. If you’re good at that, please contact me because I need help filling out next year’s March Madness bracket. That’s where the legit, evidence-based, process of doing history comes in. Only by immersing yourself in The Before in that way can you start to understand today.

When you explore the before4Note to self: Explore The Before could be a badass slogan to put on a mug or t-shirt. in that way, you’ll discover that your present-day is especially strange. You’ll also learn that you, therefore, are a weirdo. It’s okay though. I’m a professional historian and I’ve been trained to help you find your way. My name is Doug Sofer, and I’m a weirdo just like you.
